Thlog #4

I know that i talk about my papers a lot, but i definitely have a ton on my mind about this past WP. So before when it came the workshops where we'd get with out classmates i thought that it really did make a difference with my writing and it helped a lot, WRONG! I feel as if i didn't get the really serious feedback from anyone that i was put in a group with (maybe one person), but i still don't think it went all that well for WP2. I got a pretty low grade on the assignment even though i feel as if it's my best work. I know it was missing pieces like the course readings, but i honestly didn't think that the readings would fit anywhere in the paper, i didn't want to just throw it in there and then have my entire paper not flow together properly. Granted i do have to organize it a little better and i tired my best at it, guess it just wasn't good enough. Back to the workshops, when i'm put into the group i try to do the best i can by giving honest feedback and opinions on what i thing could be changed or made better. I'm not saying that it's my group members fault that that paper was complete and utter shit, i'm just saying that i wish i would've gotten peoples honest feedback. I really thought that since this paper was a lot easier than the first that it would've been a breeze to write and i would've gotten a better grade than last time, but no it's a big pain in the ass just like all writing is to me. I can't stand writing and writing about stuff that is boring is even worse. I tried by writing about something that was interesting to me and maybe a lot of other people, but having to incorporate so many things into the paper made it drag for me, i didn't enjoy it. I'm not coming at the assignment, because maybe it works for other people, but it doesn't work for me and it never has. My teachers always tried to help me and make the assignments sound more interesting to me so that i'd be more enthusiastic about writing and that didn't do anything. Everyone always told me i was good at writing and that may be true, but i absolutely hate writing and that's probably why my paper got such a low grade.

Thlog #3

So in this tholg i want to talk about my feelings about WP2 and how the past two classes have helped me see it a little bit easier. So  before we were handed the papers that had what we were supposed to do for PB2A, PB2B, and WP2 i was a little on edge with the thought of having to do more wringing. Our first WP wasn't the easiest for me, especially because writing is not my strong point. When i looked at the paper and read what we needed to do i was kind of confused as to what moves were for PB2A, but when it was explained to us a little bit better i finally got it. I had so many questions going through my head while writing it like: How will i know if it's a move? Am i actually doing this PB correctly? Is this a good enough article to pick for this type of thing? The "They say I say" packet actually helped a lot, it helped me identify the moves that the author of the article i chose. Some of the moves in the packet really matched the moves in the article and others didn't. PB2B was a little bit easier only because it was something a little more interesting for me to write about, i don't know why i never chose any thing i'm going to be crazy about doing work on, The conversation and examples that were given in class helped me think about this PB easier, like the example given about who would be the "players" and/or how would they be effected and the things that were name in the list on the screen. It helped me think about my article Called the UGGly Truth and dig deeper into the issue. Now that I've done both of the PBs I read over what is to be done in WP2 and it doesn't seem as bad as i thought. It is hopefully going to be 10x easier for me than the first one on genres, because that didn't go well at all, the only thing i think i will struggle with is finding the right article for me and the people who wrote it. I hope that when i'm finished with my WP2 it is a good paper and that I've gotten the point of moved and how to spot them in someones writing or even my writing.

PB2B

The topic that I will be writing about in PB2B is uggs animal cruelty. The article that i will be referencing is is called "The Uggly Truth" on snopes.com by David Mikkelson. This article is about the truth behind what the popular Ugg boots are made of and how people have felt after knowing what has happened to the poor sheep just to get those "stylish" boots. Mikkelson gives information in the article stating that "Ugg boots are typically made from sheepskin with attached fleece, a raw material derived from sheep that have been killed and skinned rather than simply sheared of their coats." With that being said there are many "players" involved in this issue, one of the most obvious ones is the company that manufacture the boots. The Princeton Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), the sheep that are killed for the boots, and the customer are also all involved in this issue.

In this issue this company that manufactures the boots is involved because they could loose a lot of money if some of their customers are very against animal cruelty. That means that if some of their customers are against how the boots are made they could protest against the boots by not buying them and probably convince others they know into not buying the boots. If more and more of their customers stop buying their boot then they start loosing money and their business will go down hill from there. Seeing as my mother has been against animal cruelty my entire life and has been donating money to PETA for years now we do not buy anything including uggs that have real fur or animal skin.

The Princeton Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is involved in this issue because it is an organization that helps hurt or abandoned animals and takes them in. You can go in and adopt one of the many animals in their facilities or you can donate to their organization. In 2008 they put together a protest with PETA to speak out about animals being killed as part of the fashion fur industry, the article states that the protest was "focused on ugg boots, which are made of sheepskin". David also includes that during the protest "Defying February's climatic dictates, students lay in the newly fallen snow on the Frist Campus Center's North Front Lawn, feigning death, wearing coats covered with fake blood and sporting signs that read, "What if you were killed for your coat?" "

Finally the poor poor sheep who loose not only their fur and their skin, but their lives for "fashionable" boots that us humans wear to keep warm. We were the boots made of the sheep fur to keep warm, but what isn't realized is that the sheep have their fur too keep them warm in the winter. It says in the article that on the Ugg website there is a "animal rights" subsection that says that "the company does not use material obtained from sheep that have been "mulesed" ", but how does that make it any better? I mean doesn' that still hurt the animal?

PB2A

I choose a text written by a teacher and it's called "Great Teachers Don't Teach" By Ben Johnson

One move i believe the author made is called the "Introducing An Ongoing Debate" from "They say I say". I believe that is one of the moves that he made because the very first sentence of the article is "In a conversation Linkedin...." and in They say I say, it says that the move starts with "In discussions of x,.....". In my opinion they are both kind of similar, i may be wrong, but that's a move i see.

A second move I believe the is one that i found on my own is at least twice the author talks about his "amazing psychology professor". So he's basically trying to or is comparing teachers now to his teacher back then and how they're ways of teaching are similar. If i had to name this move I would probably name it The Flashback or Throwback just because he is throwing it back to when he was still in school.

The third move that I found that the author made was from "They say I say" and its called "Agreeing - with disagreeing". I think that's a move that the author makes because he say " My experience is that good teachers......" and in They say I say it says " I agree that _ because my experience.....". He is going on about his experience with good teachers and what good teachers expect.

A fourth move i found that Johnson made was when he basically defined the word "teacher". For that move the name i would give it is the "Definition work in". That't the name i would give it because he worked in a definition to give the readers of his text a better understanding.

The fifth move I found in the text is from They say I say  and it is "Adding Metacommentray". This is one of his moves because all though he uses "Returning to my original premise" and in the handout on page 694 all of the example seem like they would fit in the same category as that transition (if that's even what it's considered)

The last move he made is another one that i'm naming on my own and i would call it the reference. I'd call it the reference because the last section of his article is all him referencing his book "Teaching Students To Dig Deeper: The common Core in Action".

Thlog #2

Fridays class really helped me with the changes I need to make on my WP1. While working with my group they were giving me great feed back on my paper with things they thought i should change or add to it.  It also helped me more working in groups than alone because being able to see how other people put together their papers gave me a better understanding of what should probably be seen in my paper. All though I did make a couple changes to my paper I'm not so sure that they were the correct changes. I'm still a little iffy with what i should have done in the paper or changed, I don't know if the details that i added were needed or if they just made it even wordier.  I will be honest though on Friday after class I felt a little bit better about what i had written. When i got home i went through the readings from class and i got a little bit more of an understanding. I hope that my argument was correct and that is shown in my writing.

While writing this paper i was a bit confused as to what was right and what was wrong, i felt as if it was a bit too wordy and had too much information about my topic in it. Just hope that after this paper i get a better understanding of what is needed and what the proper way to write about genre is. I made sure that after I wrote my paper i had my mom look over it to check for grammatical errors, she looked it over, highlighted what i needed to fix and i did it. I then proceeded to share it with a classmate and had her reed it over too see if it looked okay. obviously not because my argument was completely wrong, so again i looked over the articles I chose for my paper then took a look at our class reading and put two and two together. All i want is to know that i.m doing everything correctly and if i'm not then get and explanation as too  what i'm doing wrong or what i'm not getting.

i hope that by the time this class is over with i will better understand what the meaning of textual genre is and how to compare the several different ways of reading and writing.

PB1B

Kalin White is a 21 year old R&B artist from Bay Area who started off in a duo called Kalin and Myles, they went their separate ways in March 2016.  Kalin recently (October 14, 2016) released his first EP alone called Chapter 21, the EP includes songs that are based on the past year of his life and the events that happened in that time. Chapter 21 was number 4 on the charts after only an hour after being released and received 5 star rating from mostly every person who wrote a review on ITunes.
From what I've seen most of the reviews on the EP are good ones Lauren Macdonald wrote her review on Itunes and gave him 5 stars she said "Kalin did THAT! This project honestly has a bit of everything. There's some vibin' type songs, dancing type songs, falsettos, crazy melodies, background vocals, and the production of the whole project is just...WOW."  she also said at the end "R&B is definitely Kalin White's sound".  I agree with her 100 percent, not only because I've been a big supporter for 3/4 years, but because you can definitely hear all of the things she listed in all the songs they aren't all the same sound. (Basically all of my reviews are coming from Itunes) another one of the reviews was given by a person who's screen name is PrettyBoy1107 haha and he says " Okay Kalin I see you bro you keep making dope music."  Others said things such as "quality 10/10" or "super wavy vibes" and i think that's exactly what he was going for with is EP. His style in music even when he was with Myles was always on the more chill side of things and gave the laid back vibes.

If I must say myself Kalin is very talented he says himself that he gets a lot of his inspiration from his life and personal things that have happened such as relationships, family, ect.  Other people such as Jenniferisgee say " You have a great voice so show it off. Stop trying to do too much in one song with the stuff you're adding to the song like extra effects." she also gave him one star. So she isn't telling him he's horrible she just thinks that the songs should be for of his voice and less background effects. Since i have supported Kalin for as long as I have I have made many friends because of him and I'm in a group chat with some of my friends where we talk about anything and i asked them for their opinions they all went crazy for it. There were even polls on twitter asking for everyone's opinions on it. I just found a picture that shows that Chapter 21 was at number 2 on the charts four days ago. All together this EP is a great one and I'm not the only one who thinks so as you can see in the reviews that i quoted above.

Thlog #1 : SQGFWT:CRA & How to Quick read

Both of these passages were somewhat informative to me. I think that How to quick read will be the most helpful for me only because, at times with reading I become bored and i never finish reading what I'm supposed to in time for classes or anything. It will definitely help me since i get distracted so easily while reading and I'll finish what i need to get done. Shelly's Quick Guides for Writing Teachers: Critical Reading Assignments helped me understand reading assignments carefully is important. Just in the second paragraph i learned that reading slower will help me save time. Although i did learn some bits from these passages I don't have much of an opinion on them, those two things are what stuck out to me, because all this time i read extremely thinking it was getting me finished faster. After reading Shelly's Quick Guide i realized that after i would read fast i didn't really remember any of the information i had just read.

PB1A: Classic Horror movie reviews

My genre is classic horror movie reviews, i picked this genre because horror movies are very popular especially because it is October. For many people horror terrifies them to the point of them losing sleep or making them believe they're hearing things that are just in their head. Some of the most popular horror movies said by www.ing.com are: Scream, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Blair witch Project, Nightmare on Elm street, ect. In a review written about A Nightmare On Elm Street by Don Sumner on horrorfreaknews.com say"A Nightmare On Elm Street is, for so many reasons, one of the classics" he also says " this movie breaks so many horror movie rules". A Nightmare On Elm Street is a movie that shows you that your not even safe in your own mind, that's how terrifying it is.
Now when it comes to Friday The 13th i personally thing that it's not the best horror movie out there and everyone says that it's a "classic" because it's old and the main killer in the movie (Jason) is somehow as "scary" as Freddy or Michael Myers. I don't think i'm the only one who thinks that this movie is sucky, a review written by somebody who's name i couldn't find on commonsensemedia.org basically says that the film only got points for the creativity and the special effects. He also says "Friday The 13th is a sick film with virtually no redeeming qualities" and he also says that Jason and the movie are very well know, too bad its not a good movie. Although the nameless reviewer and i don't believe this film is any good, Joe from metacritic.com says "its a great and scary film, it has good acting, good death scenes and unlike most horror movies and games it has good jump scares". And Missdrae from the same website says "it's actually quite enjoyable".
Halloween, another movie that i don't find scary or entertaining, but others including my cousins highly enjoy. Roger Ebert from rogerebert.com gave the movie 4 stars and he says that "Halloween is an absolute merciless thriller, a movie so violent and scary that yes, i would compare to Psycho". THR Staff from hollywoodreporter.com "The horror formula doesn’t get much simpler than a masked killer stalking teenagers, but that is all writer-director John Carpenter needed to create a masterpiece with the original Halloween. The film defined many of the tropes we now take for granted, and not even decades of mediocre sequels (or Rob Zombie remakes) can dull its terrifyingly sharp edge."    In all honesty I don't really find any of these masked killer scary movies don't scare me, maybe if they were in front of my face i'd be scared, but I just get so bored with them. When i was younger i found the movie The Ring really scary, when i saw it i couldn't sleep for weeks and my sisters thought it was so funny. I used to think i was seeing things in the dark and had to sleep with the lights on.

My name is Katia Roberts and i'm 18 years old. I have two older sisters and a younger brother, i also have two nephews and one niece. My freshman year of high school my brother, mother, and i moved to Louisville, Kentucky because my mom got a great job offer out there, but we didn't like it out there so that july we moved back to Philadelphia where i finished my last three years of high school at Abraham Lincoln High School. My favorite movie is Baerfoot in the park, a movie from 1967, its been my favorite for as long as i can remember. I love music, but lately i haven't like just one certain person/group just specific songs, although i have been a huge fan of Justin Bieber since i was 9 or 10 years old. I love going out with my mom or my friends and just talking.
